Lag for Break - the course of action that determines the starting player of each game. Usually, both players shoot a ball from behind the head string to the foot cushion aiming to return it the closest to the head cushion.

Leave - the position of the cue ball after being shot.

Long - a ball driven wide spread than the standard, usually as a result of english or speed.

Lot - the course of action that determines the starting player usually by flipping coins, drawing cards, etc.
