Safety - when the balls are set in a position purposed to minimize the chances of the opponent to score .

Scratch - when a stroke drives the cue ball into a pocket.

Shaft - the thinner part of the cue stick, which attaches the tip to the cue.

Shape - same as position.

Shot - the act that begins with the contact between the tip and the cue ball until all balls stop from spinning.

Split Hit - when the cue ball is close to the object balls and it is hard to decide which object ball was contacted first.

Stop Shot - when cue ball stops right after striking the object ball.

Stroke - the movement of the cue stick as the shot is executed.
