Equipment used in Billiards Games

If you are serious about playing pool, then you must take your pool equipment seriously. All you need to know about pool and billiards equipment can be found in here including how to choose the best cue stick, how to build a billiard table, how to maintain your cue and more. First, here is a guide to the basics requirements of equipment used in pool and billiards games.

Cue Sticks

The cue stick is the most important equipment in the pool game. Whether you are an amateur 8-ball player or a professional 9-ball tournament player, your cue stick must be of the best quality or else it would significantly diminish your chances of winning in pool games.

Generally, cue sticks are divided into two main types: the one piece cue and the two piece cue stick. The two piece cues are usually of higher quality; the best are made of maple and divided by a joint of metal. The worst cue sticks available in the market are one pieces cues composed of ramin with plastic tips; these are also the cheapest cues you can find.

The pool and billiards equipment market offers variety of cue sticks in different qualities and range of prices. Here you can find tips that will help you select a decent cue stick to fit your style as well as your budget.

Billiard Tables

Pool and billiard tables come in variety of sizes, depending on their purpose. However, they are always rectangles with the length of the table doubles its width. Home pool tables are usually 8 foot long. Billiard tables used in pocket billiard games such as 8-ball, 9-ball and snooker have six pockets including four corner pockets and two on each side of the table. Additionally, billiard tables are covered with a green felt.

Billiard Balls

Different pool games are occupying different types, colors and sizes of billiard balls. In snooker, there are 15 red balls, six balls of different colors plus the cue ball. In 8-ball pool, there are 15 colored balls (in addition to the cue ball): 7 solid, 7 striped and the black 8-ball. In straight pool, there are 15 balls numbered 1 through 15 plus the white cue ball.

According to the official rules, balls used in pocket billiard games must be 2.25 inches in diameter. The weight of the billiard balls has to range between 5.5 oz to 6 oz. Balls used in snooker rules are a bit smaller: they are usually 2.0625 in diameter. Nowadays, most billiard balls are made of phenolic resin.
