Strategy
can make the difference between winning and losing in a billiard
game. Strategy in pool and billiards games can be defined as
a series of tactics or an overall approach to the game. If
you will play pool using strategy instead of having a casual
approach towards the game, you will have better chances of
ending the pool game as a winner.
The
toughest mission whom pool beginners have to face is to
handle long shots. It may seem easy when performed by
professional pool players, but if a long shot is performed
without a preparation it can easily end up with a miss. If
you want to learn how to face this challenge easily and
successfully, here are some helpful strategy tips:
-
In order to perform long shots
successfully, you must work on the consistency and stability
of your cue shots. Putting your forward hand on the table
before your shoot in such a manner that will allow the cue
to slide smoothly through it, would support the stability of
your cue shot.
-
To line up the shot, place the cue
tip in the target pocket and align the cue over the middle
of the object ball. This way, the cue marks the path through
the ball towards the pocket. The meeting point between this
path and the external edge of the object ball is where you
should hit the cue ball. From now on, pay full attention to
the cue ball and try not to look at your object ball. As you
focus on the cue ball, strike it with your cue a little bit
lower than the centerline.
-
While you are shooting, have the arm
of your shooting hand as close as possible to your body;
keep the elbow at an angle of 90 degrees. The movement of
your shooting has to start from the shoulder.
-
Apply no more than the minimum power
required to execute the shot; using full force is not
required and can even have a negative effect on achieving
your goal.
